Antonio Conte’s Chelsea marched closer towards the Premier League this week as they beat Manchester City to extend their lead at the top of the table.

The Blues lost a little bit of ground last weekend after they were beaten somewhat surprisingly by Crystal Palace but they were back to their best against City, who slipped further away from the Champions League places.

But away from the current season, it’s been interesting to take a look through the memory book at some of the stars Chelsea have been lucky to have grace the Stamford Bridge turf over the past few years.

And amongst some of the supporters here in the Transfer Tavern, there’s genuine thought that some of them were let go far too quickly.

So with that in mind and after a long consultation with our landlord, whose not afraid to get his point of view across at all, here’s the Chelsea players the club were far too quick to sell…..

Didier Drogba

He’s arguably the biggest legend of all time down at Stamford Bridge and there’s plenty of supporters here in the pub that wanted Didier Drogba to remain at the Bridge after he made his move to the MLS.

He won Chelsea that Champions League crown and there are many fans who would love to see him in a coaching role at the Bridge, inspiring the next wave of youngsters currently coming through the ranks at the club.

But there’s little doubt that we’ll see the Ivorian again sometime at the place he still calls home.

Ramires

Brazilian midfielder Ramires was off-loaded to the up-and-coming Chinese league this summer, but there’s thought amongst some supporters here in the tavern that he’s a player that should have been kept hold of.

He’s a cracking box-to-box player who did very little wrong during his tenure at Stamford Bridge and for some fans, he would be the ideal player to play alongside N’Golo Kante in the middle-of-the-park.

Were Chelsea perhaps a little too quick to recoup the mega-bucks for the Brazilian man?

Mo Salah

Mo Salah moved to Chelsea and it became very clear very quickly that he wasn’t going to get much first-team action for the Blues.

He’s currently with Serie A outfit Roma, terrorising defenders week-in, week-out with his pace, skill and directness.

At times, you get the feeling the Egyptian international would have been a player that was more than good enough to stay at the Bridge when in fact, he was moved on far too quickly.
