Sheffield United interested in Jermain Defoe and Shane Long

Sheffield United are in a great position to challenge for promotion to the Premier League this season and it appears Chris Wilder is going to use the transfer window to help bolster their chances.

The Blades are believed to be in the market for a new striker to try and help them achieve those aims and it seems that two experienced top-flight marksman are on their radar.

According to the Sheffield Star, Jermain Defoe and Shane Long are both thought to be high up on their list and are considering to bring them in on loan.

Both strikers are currently on the fringes of Bournemouth and Southampton currently and could look for a way out in January in search of regular football.

Sheffield United already have the likes of Billy Sharp, David McGoldrick and Leon Clarke, however, it is believed Wilder wants to add to them.

The Verdict:

The Blades are currently sitting in fourth in the Championship after a fine start to the season and look good to be in a position to challenge for a promotion spot by the time the campaign comes to an end.

And, adding either the likes of Defoe or Long would be considered excellent business for the Bramall Lane outfit.

Both men are extremely experienced goalscorers and would certainly provide them with a clinical edge, however, it remains to be seen if either of them will be able to leave their current clubs in the January window, should they wish to leave.
