Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to footage of Jacob Murphy

Although it would have been difficult to find any positives following the heavy 5-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday afternoon, a video of Jacob Murphy that had started to circulate on Twitter had a number of the Sheffield Wednesday faithful reacting positively.

The 25-year-old, who is on loan from Newcastle United, was caught clapping the travelling away support after the game and showing his appreciation to those who had made the long journey from Yorkshire to London.

As mentioned, a plethora of fans that had witnessed the footage had been praising the winger for acknowledging those in the stands with many suggesting that he had been the only player trying to help The Owls at the moment.

Indeed, Murphy was rated as Sheffield Wednesday’s best player at Griffin Park on the day with WhoScored handing him a match rating of just 6.41, which perhaps says it all regarding the performance from his team-mates on the afternoon.

The winger had two shots at goal (the joint-most), created one key pass, won one aerial duel and even got stuck in defensively as he made two tackles and one interception (per WhoScored). With figures like that, perhaps it is no surprise why so many of the club’s faithful had positive things to say to him on what was likely an embarrassing afternoon.
