Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been somewhat downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their team bow out of the Carabao Cup at the second round stage on Tuesday night.
Jos Luhukay’s men went into their encounter with Premier League outfit Wolves off the back of successive victories in the Championship over Millwall and Ipswich Town, thus full of confidence ahead of the visit of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. Yet the Owls were second-best at Hillsborough in midweek as goals from Leo Bonatini and Helder Costa sealed a 2-0 success for the West Midlands outfit, thus booking their place in the third round.
Thus, there have been some disappointed Wednesday fans up and down the country in recent times, although their mood is likely to have been improved by the club’s business on the final day of the loan window, which saw the Owls land Josh Onomah from Tottenham and Michael Hector from Chelsea on temporary deals until the end of the season.
21-year-old Onomah impressed greatly during a loan stint at Aston Villa last term in netting four goals and laying on three assists to help the Midlands giants reach the top six, although he was unable to inspire them to play-off success over Fulham in the final at Wembley.
Centre back Hector has been playing his football at 2017 Premier League champions Chelsea since moving there from Reading back in 2015, but in failing to feature at all for the senior team at Stamford Bridge, another loan spell, having spent last season at second tier outfit Hull City temporarily, always looked on the cards for the 26-year-old.
And both have made the move to Hillsborough to link-up with Luhukay and his Wednesday squad, and after a summer in which they were unable to sign players because of a transfer embargo, several Owls fans took to Twitter to express their optimism ahead of the remainder of the season after landing Onomah and Hector on the final day of the loan window…
