Sheffield Wednesday: Three Premier League clubs are interested in Owls duo

Three Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Sheffield Wednesday pair Morgan Fox and Steven Fletcher.

According to TEAMtalk, Burnley, Norwich and Bournemouth are all interested in the services of the two Owls players. The duo are just two players who will be out of contract this summer – as it stands, Garry Monk could be facing a mass exodus once the transfer window opens.

A total of 12 senior players will walk away as free agents unless new terms are met, plus five loan players who are also due to return to their parent clubs. Veteran Fletcher is Wednesday’s top scorer this season, and losing him could prove costly. Despite being 33, no other Owls player has come close to his tally of 13 Championship goals this campaign (via Transfermarkt).

The striker has been with the Yorkshire club for four years and has scored a total of 38 goals in that time. Fox has spent three years with the Owls and will be moving on unless he accepts a new contract, with  Middlesbrough and Rangers reportedly also keeping an eye on the left-back.

In the TEAMtalk report, it states that Wednesday are finding it difficult to tie down the two players and it seems likely a Hillsborough exit is on the cards for both of them.

Due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Championship teams will likely struggle in the upcoming window and will probably rely heavily on low-price deals and loan or swap deals. Monk’s side is no different and the departure of two first-team stalwarts like Fletcher and Fox could leave a gaping hole in the squad next season.
