Many Sheffield Wednesday fans are reacting to a transfer update from Dom Howson which reveals the Owls are keen on defender Harry Pickering.
The journalist has said: “Reports #SWFC are interested in signing Crewe’s Harry Pickering are accurate.” He went on to explain that Wednesday are big admirers of the left-back, and it is thought that Crewe are holding out for a minimum figure of £600,000.
It will be interesting to see whether a deal can be made as Blackburn recently had a bid turned down for the 22-year-old whilst Stoke have also been linked with a move. Pickering has played 23 times in League One this season and has looked good both offensively and defensively.
He has scored three goals, picked up one assist and managed 2.3 key passes a game (WhoScored). Meanwhile defensively, he has managed two clearances and one tackle per match.
Currently, the Owls only have one recognised left-back at the club in Matt Penney and this is a real issue for them, so it’s no surprise to see fans delighted by Howson’s update, with one supporter below describing the possible transfer as ‘superb’ news.
Here is what Sheffield Wednesday fans have said following this update:
“Superb stuff! Get him signed”
“A specialist left back would be a really good addition imo”
“If true, at least were thinking outside the box more and about time !! Need to explore the Brentford / Posh model”
“Love this approach if it’s true. A transfer with an immediate plan as well for the future going for one of the brightest prospects in the football league. That is my Wednesday. Even if it doesn’t come off, it shows the guys are thinking smart”
“Absolute bargain if he only costs £600,000.”
“Would be delighted with that. Type of signing we should have been making for ages”
