Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to their side’s trip to Stoke City in the Premier League this evening, what with the Reds going into the clash off the back of a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have won four and drawn two of their six matches since losing 4-1 to Tottenham at Wembley on October 22, although those two draws have come in their last two outings. The Merseyside giants let slip a three-goal lead to only draw 3-3 at Sevilla in the Champions League last week, before a late Willian effort was enough to secure Premier League champions Chelsea a 1-1 draw from their trip to Anfield on Saturday, a result which instigated Liverpool’s fall to sixth in the division.
Thus, there are many satisfied Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, and they are also likely to be interested by a recent report from ESPN, which outlines some potentially surprising developments in their bid for defensive reinforcements in January, as the report suggests that they are in the race for Egypt international Ahmed Hegazi.
The 26-year-old currently plays his trade at Premier League outfit West Brom and has done so since moving on loan from Al Ahly back in July, and he has gone on to command regular football at the heart of the Baggies backline.
The centre-back has started all 14 of their league games this term, bagging once in their opening day victory over Bournemouth, and is clearly doing something right given that reports suggest Liverpool and indeed Leicester City are lining up a shock move for the 26-year-old.
And with Klopp’s men in particular in need of defensive reinforcements in the coming windows, it’s a move, albeit a somewhat surprising one, that the Reds may need to make in the near future.
