The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments made by their club’s third-choice goalkeeper, Joel Pereira. The Portuguese shot-stopper, whilst speaking in an interview for Manchester United’s website, claimed that he wanted to prove his Jose Mourinho right after Mourinho claimed Pereira could become “the best Portuguese keeper of the next generation.”
The comments from Pereira have led to the United fans propping our bar up to come out in support for the ‘keeper as they want to see him shine at Old Trafford. However, the youngster faces a difficult road to the first team with Spain and Argentina’s respective number ones, David De Gea and Sergio Romero standing in between Pereira and a starting role between the sticks.
The Portuguese ‘keeper has been included as part of a 23 man squad for Portugal’s U21 fixtures against Lichenstein and Switzerland during the international break. In the longer term, Pereira most likely faces loan spells away from Old Trafford in the coming seasons as he looks to hone his skills and live up to his full potential. Whilst it’s no doubt going to be a difficult path for the 21-year-old, his recent comments show that he has the fight and the desire to make it at Old Trafford one day.
