With just three league defeats all season, you’d be expecting to see much happier Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern.

However, their failure to get over the line in ten draws this season sees the Red Devils somewhat off the league leaders, Chelsea, which our landlord is actually very surprised about.

The reason our landlord is surprised is that United were notorious for getting over the line in the dying seconds of football matches under the legend that is Sir Alex Ferguson. Fergie’s team used to win in the last few minutes and to the annoyance of United fans in the Tavern – this talent seems to have disappeared from their club.

Furthermore, another trait of United that has seemed to disappear in recent seasons is the quality of youth coming into the first team at United. This has resulted in a couple of expensive summers within the red half of Manchester and our landlord feels United’s bank balance could do with more youth stepping up into the first team.

Our older Red Devils in the Transfer Tavern agree and recall the early 1990’s when their young team upset all odds in dominating the early stages of the Premier League’s history.

Saying that, it is not all doom and gloom for United fans as our landlord has been in his beer cellar casting his eye over the talent that is currently at United and he feels that their are a few players in the ranks that could well make their mark in world football.

Let’s take a look at his findings…

Marcus Rashford

Perhaps stating the obvious but Rashford can only get better than the glimpses he has shown so far in a Manchester United and England shirt.

Although he has been utilised as a wide man and central striker by Jose Mourinho this season, Rashford has contributed seven goals in all competitions to United’s cause this year. He also came runner up to Bayern’s Renato Sanches in the European Golden Boy award.

Axel Tuanzebe

The Congolese born centre-back has impressed his coaches at Manchester United with his former youth team coach, Paul McGuinesss, giving Tuanzebe the honour of leading the U18 side in his first year as scholar with the club.

Our resident United punters were impressed with the athleticism of their England U19 starlet during the FA Cup win against Wigan earlier in the season in which Tuanzebe made his debut for the Red Devils.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Another youngster who has already made his bow in the first team, Red Devils in the Transfer Tavern were impressed with Fosu-Mensah last season when he was given his chance under Louis van Gaal, however he has only made one appearance under new boss, Mourinho, in the league.

In contrast to this reality, our landlord has pointed towards the contract the young Dutchman signed earlier in the season until 2020, meaning that he must be rated by the higher powers at United.

Angel Gomes

A long way of the first team, Angel Gomes caught the eye of our landlord early in the season when he bagged a hat-trick from the bench for United U18’s against Everton U18’s.

Already singled out by former United man, Nani, as one for the future. Gomes has already captained the England U17 side despite being just 16 years of age and our resident United fans in the Tavern cannot wait to see if Gomes lives up to his potential.
