Currently playing for Leicester City, the Englishman offers brilliant power at the back, and though he’s perhaps best known for his quality in the air, he is just as comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Naturally, then, he’d be a good fit at Old Trafford, and he’d be a very popular man with Mourinho.
However, the role he would play in the squad would also make life a lot easier for a few players in the team – and that could make him very popular with them, too.
With that said, these 2 Man Utd players must be desperate for Harry Maguire to join the club…
First and foremost, Maguire’s likely partner, if he were to join Man Utd, would be Eric Bailly, and he’d be the main benefactor of his arrival.
The Ivorian has, on his day, been sold as a rock since moving o Old Trafford, and though he hasn’t found life easy under Jose Mourinho, his talent is clear for all to see.
He hasn’t, though, had a decent partner as of yet. Neither Phil Jones or Chris Smalling have been up to the task.
Maguire, then, will come in and immediately make the defence stronger, and he’ll make Bailly’s life much easier as a result.
He’ll finally have to stop covering the mistakes of his partners.
Nemanja Matic has been great since joining Man Utd, but he has been held back somewhat.
At Chelsea, he impressed with his dynamic range of passing and, perhaps more importantly, his assists. He ended his last campaign with the Blues on 7 assists, which is a good return by anyone’s estimations.
At Man Utd, though, he’s been the main man defensively, and though that has worked well, the arrival of Maguire would undoubtedly improve things.
He’d then have to spend less time making up for the mistakes of those behind him, and more time doing what he does best – breaking up play, driving with the ball and moving forward.
He’s far more than just an immobile defensive player.
