Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to get some signings in the summer to strengthen in key areas to be ready to challenge Man City a lot closer next year, with Mourinho having aspirations of being the first manager in the post-Fergie to win the Premier League.

Our regulars believe that United are two, possibly three quality signings away from mounting a serious assault on the Premier League next season as they bid to win it for the first time since 2013.

Ed Woodward will surely have the players Jose Mourinho desires and should be aiming to work on them as soon as possible. Mourinho is not shy about spending what he needs to complete the job in hand, indeed our regulars firmly believe that United will throw more money to get on a level playing field with rivals City, whilst throwing out some deadwood.

Danny Rose

The Tottenham left-back has been linked to Old Trafford for the majority of this season but with the resurgence of Ashley Young and Luke Shaw having spurts of form, it may be a fight for the first team spot.

With Mourinho not having cemented a player in the left-back position this season often rotating between the two, in general, United have struggled to replace former captain Patrice Evra since he left with a player that can take the fullback mantle on. Like Kyle Walker over at City, Rose could have a transformative effect at Old Trafford.

Toby Alderweireld

The Spurs defender has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford recently, after coming back from injury the Belgian is now struggling to get back in Spurs’ first team. United need a centre-back and one with Premier League experience, whilst one as good as the Belgian has could prove vital in their attempts to restore the Premier League back in the Old Trafford trophy cabinet.

Alderweireld is a strong and no-nonsense type of defender but can play the ball too, something which would work well with Mourinho. A partnership between him and Eric Bailly may be the foundation United need to build on.

Toni Kroos

Toni Kroos has been linked with United for many a year now and a move to the Red Devils nearly happened under former boss David Moyes. With Michael Carrick retiring at the end of this season, United need a midfielder to take control of a game and dictate the passes from the middle of the park, while linking defence into attack.

Furthermore, there is no-one better at this in Europe then the German Kroos, and this type of player may be the difference to making United tick.
