Sixth Plays Sixteen, But Who’s The Favourite?

Sixth place takes on sixteenth tonight as Manchester City host Wigan, in what is an important game for both sides. City need a win to keep their dreams of securing fourth place alive and a victory for Wigan would see them consolidate their Premiership status.

City lost to Everton last time out, costing them their unbeaten home record and losing further ground on fourth place Spurs, who are five points ahead of City. Wigan beat Burnley in their last game and are four points above the relegation zone. In the last meeting between the two teams, it was a 1-1 draw back in October, with Martin Petrov and Charles N’Zogbia on the scoresheet.

For City, Stephen Ireland is a doubt due to a shin injury the midfielder picked up in the loss to Everton. Emmanuel Adebayor is back after serving a ban and for Wigan, Charles N’Zogbia is expected to miss the match through injury.

Prediction: The history between the two sides doesn’t swing in City’s favour. They have won just one in the last nine meetings with Wigan and in the last four games between the sides, there have been just three goals. With that in mind, I’m going to predict a bore draw. Man City 0 Wigan 0.
