TalkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair believes Danny Ings wants out of Southampton as his contract talks with the Saints continue to stall.
Ings want to leave
Ings is currently under contract until the end of the 2020/21 season (Transfermarkt), but the St. Mary’s outfit would clearly like to get him to sign a new deal. However, so far there have been no developments as to whether a new deal is close.
The release clause is reportedly causing the delay (The Athletic), with the club wanting it to be higher than Ings. To Sinclair, that news indicates the former Liverpool man is looking to depart the south coast. He said:
“We mentioned this on the show a few weeks ago when the release clause was deemed a big deal.
“I said at the time that it doesn’t sound right to me. It sounds like it’s a player that wants to get out of the club.
“This is what might be materialising behind the scenes. What is it… £20million he wanted it [the clause] to be and the club wanted a higher figure than that [understood to be around £40m].
“I think there’s more to that and possibly Danny Ings is looking for a way out as he doesn’t see that kind of ambition at Southampton football club.”
Not good news
You have to agree with Sinclair – this does not seem to be the demand of a man who sees his long-term future with Southampton. The £18m-valued England international (Transfermarkt) has been very impressive for the Saints – he has 42 goals in 90 appearances in all competitions – and he clearly feels he can still play at a higher level.
Will Ings sign a new contract at Southampton?
Unfortunately for Ralph Hasenhuttl and co, European football is a long way off. Ings is already 28 and cannot wait around forever for the club to match his own ambitions. Quite frankly, the time may have come for the two to part ways.
In other news, Southampton fans are torn after news emerged on this star.
