According to The Daily Mail, Southampton defender Yan Valery is eyeing a move away from St. Mary’s Stadium during the January transfer window.
Valery wants exit
During the 2020/21 season, Valery is yet to play a single minute in the Premier League. It seems that he has become somewhat of an outcast under current Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

As such, the Frenchman is believed to be considering his future at the club, and is prepared to move on from the south coast to secure more playing time.
Wise decision
Valery once looked to be a solid option for the future of the St. Mary’s outfit. During the 2018/19 term, he made 23 appearances in the top flight, scoring twice and providing an assist. However, he played just 11 times amongst the elite last season, with Kyle Walker-Peters nailing down a spot at right-back to continually keep Valery out of the team. That came despite Ralph Hasenhuttl previously praising Valery’s “fantastic development”.

The youngster has already made it clear to Hasenhuttl indirectly that he does not intend to be back-up option. Currently valued at £5.67m (Transfermarkt), Valery is still under contract until 2023 – the Saints should therefore be able to get their hands on a respectable fee for Valery. A parting of ways appears to be the best option for all involved.
