You thought West Ham United’s turnout at Upton Park in the Capital One Cup was poor last night? That was nothing compared to the Football Transfer Tavern’s attendance figures.

A poultry six customers turned up to watch the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg between West Ham United and Manchester City.
It really was a case of the job being done and dusted at the Etihad Stadium a fortnight ago but, as our sole West Ham punter mumbled to me, last night was really a case for the Hammers to salvage some pride.
My landlord isn’t a big fan of the cup competitions, but, for some reason, he took a front row seat at the plasma screen and was continually shouting: “Come on you Irons!”
Well, he was until the third minute, when, after Alvaro Negredo had put City 7-0 up on aggregate, he shouted an obscenity and screwed up a betting slip.
After he had stormed out to the kitchen, I went and fetched the slip and, well, I suppose you’ve got to admire his faith in the Hammers…
