Sunderland journalist James Hunter has been left buzzing following the latest news involving Black Cats maestro Ross Stewart.

The Lowdown: Stewart having a superb season

Since arriving at the Stadium of Light in January 2021, the striker has enjoyed a tremendous start to life at the League One club.

In the English third tier this season, the 25-year-old has scored a stunning 22 goals in 39 appearances. This makes him the top scorer in the entire division, highlighting how much of a bargain his £300,000 transfer fee was.

As a result, there have been many calls by the Scottish fans for the striker to receive a call-up for the national team.

The Latest: Hunter buzzing with Stewart's call-up

The official Twitter channel of the Scotland national team announced a fresh update involving a number of changes to Steve Clarke's squad for the current international break, which saw Stewart receive his first call-up.

Black Cats journalist Hunter was clearly buzzing with the 25-year-old's inclusion. Quoting the announcement via Twitter, he beamed: “Excellent news - good to see Ross Stewart get the recognition he deserves.”

The Verdict: Great news for Stewart

The call-up will come as fantastic news to the striker, who will be hoping that he can make his national team debut in Scotland’s upcoming friendly against Poland.

However, Sunderland fans will be praying that their star striker comes out of the international break unscathed, as he will surely play a crucial part in the Black Cats’ play-off push going by his goal return so far this season.

Therefore, whilst many Wearsiders may be thrilled for Stewart, some could be watching the Scotland game in angst.
