Bailey Wright came under fire from some Sunderland fans for his performance in Saturday's defeat at Portsmouth.

Sunderland were looking to consolidate their grip on top spot in League One by making it three straight wins.

Portsmouth, meanwhile, were going in search of a first win since the 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town on 17 August.

Lee Johnson made three changes from the emphatic 5-0 victory over Cheltenham in midweek, with Dennis Cirkin, Elliot Embleton and Leon Dajaku replacing Niall Huggins, Nathan Broadhead and Aiden McGeady.

Wright kept his place alongside Tom Flanagan at the heart of the defence, but Portsmouth scored three times in a dreadful first half for the Black Cats.

Marcus Harness opened the scoring before goals from Lee Brown and John Marquis pulled Pompey clear.

Wright's SofaScore rating of 6.3 was the joint-second lowest of Sunderland's outfielders. His partner in defence, Flanagan, scored the lowest with 6.2.

He lost possession on 19 occasions, with only seven of his 19 attempted long balls finding team-mates.
