Sunderland: Fans react as Gus Poyet reportedly won’t be returning to the club

Many Sunderland fans are reacting to the news that former Black Cats manager Gus Poyet will not be making a dramatic return to the club.
According to Keith Downie, Sunderland have spoken to a number of candidates in the past 48 hours and are ‘inundated’ by applications. Poyet was a candidate, but the former Chelsea and Tottenham star does not want to drop to League One.
It seems like even though the Uruguayan has huge respect for the club and loved his time there, he believes that this isn’t the right time to return – perhaps he could still man the Stadium of Light dugout in the future if they are back where they belong.
Poyet managed 60 games at Sunderland in the Premier League during his first spell, winning 14 games and picking up 63 points. He was key to them staying in the division in the 2013/14 campaign, but parted ways midway through the next season (Transfermarkt).
The reactions from the fan base on this news shows that his return would have caused mixed opinions. With this possible reunion now confirmed to not be happening, the hunt for a new manager moves on.
