Sunderland: Fans slam Aiden O’Brien display - Sunderland News

Many Sunderland fans were left slamming the display of Aiden O’Brien in their 2-2 away draw at MK Dons in the EFL League One on Saturday afternoon.

Charlie Wyke gave the Stadium of Light outfit a very early lead inside the first five minutes of the game before Lee Johnson’s team were pegged back by goals from Joe Mason and Cameron Jerome in what was a lively opening 20 minutes.

Should Sunderland start O'Brien?

Luke O’Nien managed to pull the Black Cats level just over 10 minutes into the second half but in the end the North East side had to settle for a point.

There were a few performances in a Sunderland shirt that really flattered to deceive, and one of them was O’Brien.

The Republic of Ireland international lost out on no fewer than six of his duels in the game, and also failed to record a single shot on target, as he lost possession of the ball 11 times (Sofascore).

The 27-year-old really failed to make a real impact on the match, having fewer touches than his own goalkeeper in Lee Burge, as he earned a quite measly 6.7 overall rating on Sofascore, the joint-second lowest out of any of his teammates to have started the clash.

Sunderland fan reaction to O’Brien display

These supporters slammed his performance on Twitter, with one fan even going as far as to call the striker ‘useless’:

“Has to change the shape. O’Brien needs dropping. 4231 #SAFC”

“Could and should have won. Could have lost. Should have definitely had a penalty. Jones looked decent when he came on, Vokins was ok and feel there’s more to come from him. O’Brien is lucky to be in the team #SAFC”

“So, where to start with #SAFC? Burge could’ve done better with the first goal, the back four have been awful but particularly Wright and Vokins, midfielders have been ok going forward but not so good out of possession, O’Brien is useless and Wyke should’ve had more than one.”

“How does O’Brien get a game every week?? #safc”

“Always one touch too many, and still not convinced O’Brien is a professional and not a fan who won a competition #safc”

“Is O’Brien ever going to put some actual pressure on their defender from a goal kick when they repeat the same routine from the keeper every time??? #safc”
