Many Sunderland fans were far from happy with comments from manager Lee Johnson in the aftermath of their 1-0 defeat to Blackpool on Saturday.
The Black Cats’ hopes of automatic promotion from League One are in tatters after this latest defeat. The loss to the Seasiders was their third in a row in the league (Sky Sports) after they were beaten 2-1 by both Charlton and Wigan, and they are now eight points behind second-placed Peterborough United with five games left to play (BBC). Their best hope of going up is now via the play-offs.
Johnson was speaking to Sunderland’s media team after the match as he attempted to explain the defeat. He suggested that, had the game been played 100 times, his side would have mainly picked up or a draw and maybe even won – the Black Cats had twice as much of the ball and almost twice as many shots as the home side (SofaScore) but still emerged without a point.
Will Sunderland get promoted?
The comments were shared on the club’s official Twitter account, and they attracted plenty of attention from disgruntled Sunderland supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on the manager’s post-Blackpool reaction.
Let’s see what the fans had to say about the comments from Johnson below
“Lots of big words blah blah blah sharks etc blah blah blah”
“Watched a different game to me”
“When is switching off not a mistake”
“Not good enough from anyone from the club! And the manager is included in this!”
“He doesn’t have a clue!”
“This talk about fine margins doesn’t wash with me… our problems lie in the final 3rd,we don’t create clear cut chances and don’t score enough goals..”
