Sunderland are closing in on another deal this summer that would allow them to mount a challenge to return back to the Championship.
The Black Cats have been very pro-active in the transfer window as Jack Ross looks to take his new side back into the second-tier of English football.
The former St. Mirren boss has already made a handful of signings to help strengthen his team and it appears that he is on the verge of making another one to boost his defence.
Baldwin had been made available by The Posh at the beginning of the transfer window and Ross is thought to have made the centre-back one of his main targets, despite having an initial offer being rejected.
The Verdict:

The centre-back is an experienced player that has spent time in League One and could help Sunderland with their promotion efforts.
It was strange to see him transfer listed earlier in the summer after he made 43 appearances for Peterborough last season, however, the Black Cats will be delighted that they are one step closer to getting their man.
The arrival of Baldwin should end the defensive recruits for Ross, as he has signed Glenn Loovens, Tom Flanagan and Alim Ozturk already, and should see his focus turn to other areas of his squad.
