Many Sunderland fans disagree with a former legend of the club, Kevin Phillips, who believes (per Football Insider) that the club should keep forward Duncan Watmore next season.
Watmore’s contract is up in the summer, and the striker has been fully fit since May 2019 but is now struggling for game time. Indeed, manager Phil Parkinson seemingly prefers Lynden Gooch since his return from injury, and it’s easy to see why as Gooch has scored 10 this season and Watmore has only scored one, per WhoScored.
The 26-year-old is approaching his seventh season since his professional debut on Wearside and was a key player during their final couple of seasons in the Premier League but has since had various injury problems which added up together has kept him out of the side for 801 days, per Transfermarkt.
This leaves a lot of uncertainty around his future, but he has only played 87 times, whilst scoring eight times, and it is up to Parkinson to decide whether he can try and get the best of out him or if its best for both parties if he secures a move elsewhere.

Why? Why’s he done to justify a new contract? Nice lad don’t get me wrong but too injury prone and zero end product

He’d be first out the door for me
We’ve carried him & his wages for over 3 seasons now
Not taking anything away from the lad due to his injuries , but there’s no place for sentiment in football— ® Gorman Stewart ©️ (@1879SAFC) March 15, 2020
He’s got to be one of the worst players on the books….for the mount of money he’s cost us down the years, and what he contributes (WHEN FIT) 😂😂
