Sunderland fans have shown their jubilation on Twitter after rogue defender Papy Djilobodji had his contract terminated at the club.
The Black Cats’ owner Stewart Donald sacked the defender on Wednesday, after he returned to the club late following the summer break, and proceeded to ‘comprehensively’ fail his fitness test.
The defender spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Dijon and was looking for a permanent deal away from the Stadium of Light over the summer. However, that did not come to fruition, but the player still refused to go back to the northeast of England.
This is a very rare occurrence where a club actually terminates the contract of a player, but fans have commended Sunderland for doing so.
The 29-year-old played played 18 games in the Premier League for The Black Cats after David Moyes signed him from Chelsea in 2016.
This is what the fans had to say:
Absolute disgrace of a "professional sportsman" no honour whatsoever. Glad the club are taking a strong stance & setting the precedent of what won't be tolerated. Hope he has a nice long break in his career to consider his behaviour.

A find example Sunderland. I wished every other club, especially mine, took the same example.

Discrase of a footballer, hope he never plays for another club again

After this he’ll never find a club to play for again.

Hope this doesn’t set a precedent! UEFA/FIFA should intervene in situations like this and he shouldn’t be allowed to sign for another club until the contract he had in place is finished! #safc

SUPERB!!! @stewartdonald3 now to get shot of Ndong too! I’m SO proud of my club for taking a stand on this. Why the hell should these 2 be associated and paid for by SAFC when it’s obvious they have broken their contracts.
