Sunderland have made a decision over the potential summer signing of Kosovo international Arbenit Xhemajli, report Northern Echo.
With the 2020/2021 season fast approaching, transfer gossip has been rife at the Stadium of Light and the Chronicle Live were first among media outlets to report that the Wearside club were interested in Xhemajli.
The young defender, who became a free agent following his exit from Neuchatel Xamax this summer is valued at £765,000 by Transfermarkt.
Returning to the UK at the weekend after Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson gave the green light for a contract offer, a medical is now said to be planned for the next few days.
Further to the report from Northern Echo, they also claim that Aiden McGeady has been told his future with the Black Cats is now over.
Bringing in Arbenit Xhemajli would prove a slight gamble, given he has no experience of English football, although at least now the Sunderland boss has some sort of idea at his quality after the Gateshead friendly and it seems that impression has proved enough.
A reported medical this week will be followed by confirmation of the deal and that would mean the defender could appear in the first game of the season against Hull City in the EFL Cup this coming Saturday.
