Sunderland talent Elliot Embleton is expected to be handed a first team chance next season, according to the Chronicle.
With Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson now looking ahead to the 2020/2021 season, many changes are expected at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland finished eighth in the League One table this term seeing them miss out on promotion to the Championship for a second successive season.
With a whole host of players set to leave the Stadium of Light in the coming weeks, Parkinson is now claimed to be keen on handing Embleton a chance in the first team.
Embleton initially caught the eye of former Sunderland boss Jack Ross, but a number of injury problems caused the youngster to miss out on the chance of gaining a breakthrough to the first team.
Spending time on loan with Grimsby Town during the 2018/2019 campaign, the young midfielder did well, scoring four goals and providing four assists at Blundell Park. But upon his return to the North East, he has made just three appearances for the Black Cats this term.

The youngster is now expected to be handed a chance by Parkinson though, as the Sunderland manager looks to build a side capable of gaining promotion to the Championship.
Whilst Sunderland fans may be pleased to hear that Parkinson is willing to hand a young player the chance of making it in the first team, they also may be reserved after seeing little of the midfielder in action.
Parkinson must ensure that he develops a squad that is going to perform better than this term and if that is done with a mix of youth and experience then Embleton could have a big part to play. As mentioned he showed glimpses of what he can do at Grimsby, it looks like 20/21 could be a huge campaign for him.
