Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern are enjoying this season once again and are confident Ronald Koeman is the man to take them back towards the top of English football.
Certainly, after a little wobble earlier on this year the Toffees are back in fine form and look like they could be playing in Europe next season if they keep their current form up.
Dutch manager Koeman has done a good job so far, then, but there are continuing murmurings that he could be on his way out as quickly as he has come in.
Indeed, the likes of Spanish newspaper Marca (via Sport Witness) have highlighted Barcelona’s reported interest in taking on their former player whilst Arsenal have also been linked with him in the past.
Should he leave, Everton would surely take quite the knock but our landlord reckons one of these three would be ideal to replace him in such an eventuality…
Frank de Boer
De Boer would certainly provide that top level experience to carry on from Koeman’s work.
He’s got international experience with the Netherlands national team – just as Koeman does – and in that sense their ideals of how to approach winning football games are going to be similar. He’s got his own style, though, and his work with Ajax earlier in his career suggests he’d be great for Everton’s youth policy.
Marcelo Bielsa
Bielsa is one of the most widely-respected managers around in European football and would surely underline Everton’s continued ambition to improve.
If Koeman was to leave, the Toffees next move would have to be a bold one in order to keep on their current upward trajectory and our landlord reckons Bielsa would more than help that continue. He’s got the name and reputation to take Everton places.
Unai Emery
Things have not gone exactly to plan for Emery at PSG since moving there at the beginning of this season.
He was brilliant for Sevilla as they won the likes of the Europa League but in Ligue 1 the Parisians have not had it all their own way this season. He could decide to move on, then, and our landlord reckons he’d be an ideal fit for Everton who are of similar standing to the Seville club.
