Surely 1 of these 4 midfielders should join Chelsea in January

Chelsea are looking really good for the Premier League title this season and our Blues fans here in the Transfer Tavern are loving it.

Of course, there is still a long way to go this season and the Blues are by no means streaking away from the pack – they are just three points clear of bitter rivals Arsenal in the lead.

However, the way they have taken Antonio Conte’s tactics on seemingly instantly has suggested that they are going to be very hard to stop.

Indeed, this 3-4-3 system they are currently using has been dynamite and they look like the team that won the league in 2015 so, without European football, they really have to be taken seriously.

As January approaches the Italian manager will surely be looking for ways he can strengthen his side, too, and our landlord reckons that if he manages to get at least one of these four midfielders in, it could be time to put the champagne on ice…

 Marco Verratti

The diminutive Italian could be the perfect partner for N’golo Kante in central midfield.

With Nemanja Matic only going to decline from here on in the Blues need someone more mobile if they are going to continue winning the midfield battle and the PSG man would ensure they do just that.

He gets about the pitch better than most players in this position and would be more than happy with the physicality of the league.

 Radja Nainggolan

The Belgian is another combative, mobile presence in midfield but he, like Verratti, has more than just that to offer.

The Roma man combines these defensive attributes with a genuine ability to break late into the box and he’s got a ferocious shot on him.

He won’t be intimidated in midfield and he can play the ball around too which suggests he has all the traits of a Premier League success story.

 James Rodriguez

The Colombian is a more attacking presence in the central areas and likes to get forward more so could be a different option for the Blues to go for if that’s where they feel needs improving.

He’s still to really switch it on for Real Madrid over a consistent amount of time for Los Blancos and Chelsea, with their obvious ability to afford him, could try and prise him away in what would be a fascinating deal.

 Max Meyer

The Schalke man has impressed in his early days with the way he can ghost past oncoming defenders.

Whilst the Blues have one of the best around in the shape of Belgian international Eden Hazard they shouldn’t simply dismiss the opportunities the young German could bring them.

He has Champions League experience too and that is where Chelsea want to be aiming by the end of this campaign.
