Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern were very excited for what could have been a great end to the season following their winter transfer acquisitions.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had bought well in January and the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has raised expectations with our Arsenal fans in the bar, but somehow failed to deliver as it seems a regular thing for these Gunner fans. Many of the regulars are desperate to see Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan rekindle their chemistry from their Borussia Dortmund days.

Arsenal will be hoping to gain some silverware other than the FA Cup for the first time in the since 2004, and if Wenger can get his team all singing off the same hymn sheet as soon as possible, this Arsenal team could be a force to be reckoned with in the Europa League.

With that said, our landlord takes a look at two matches coming up that should define Arsenals and Arsene Wenger’s potential last season…

1st Leg v CSKA Moscow

At home for the first leg in the Europa League quarter-final is the game that Arsenal needs to stamp their authority on the tie and roll back the years for one of those special European nights every fan loves to be a part of.

Nothing but a win will do in this first leg and a clean sheet to take to Russia will be a bonus for the Gunners. If Wenger wants to regain Champions League football, everything must be left on the pitch at the end of the 90 minutes.

vs Man United

While Arsenal’s trip to Old Trafford on the 29th April isn’t likely to have much riding on it, a hiding at the hands of Jose Mourinho wouldn’t go down well. Indeed, with the end of the campaign in sight at that point, the punters propping up our bar would remember a thrashing heading into what surely will be a review of Arsene Wenger’s future at the club.

By the same token, if they can beat United on their home turf, perhaps that sort of momentum could be taken into the next campaign.
