Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still celebrating winning the Premier League but the mastermind behind the dominant title win, Pep Guardiola, is plotting next year’s defence already – which will please the Citizens.
City will no doubt be linked with a plethora of players in the lead-up and throughout the summer transfer window – but the latest rumour in the bar has got the regulars excited. Kylian Mbappe, the on-loan Monaco attacker is in the middle of a financial fair-play situation, with PSG having to possibly buy and then immediately sell to fall in line with the rules this summer.
If Mbappe was to join the City revolution, it would certainly mean a mini clear out would be needed to make room not only in the squad but off the wage bill also.
Many of the punters feel that the Citizens haven’t got many first-team players to show the door too, with the majority of the team looking untouchable. However, our landlord believes that he has found a couple of players that should be booted out of the Etihad this summer…
Sergio Aguero
Though Sergio Aguero is undoubtedly the best striker to have ever played for City, perhaps Guardiola’s demanding footballing philosophy could finally catch up with him. Now, losing a man so important to the cause over the last few years would never go down well amongst sections of support, though the arrival of Mbappe would surely push him out.
A frontline of Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Mbappe would give the Sky Blues perhaps the greatest attack in the world, and for years to come too.

Now, Sterling has enjoyed his most productive season in front of goal as City stormed to a league title, though questions remain as to his finishing ability. The England international will often miss, as was evident in the Manchester derby, and his failure to act on big chances could cost City next season, especially if they go further in the Champions League.
If Mbappe were to arrive, the Frenchman is far more clinical in front of goal, so could perhaps see Sterling move on.
