Despite winning two league titles under his stewardship, much of the talk around the Ronny Deila era at Celtic centred around what the club were doing wrong. 

It is a strange situation for the Bhoys, who won the SPFL twice at a relative canter, though it is fair to say the club stagnated.

Failing to qualify for the Champions League proper during the Norwegian’s tenure, the club failed to capitalise on the absence of Rangers and the Scottish Cup semi-final loss represented a truly dismal time under the 40-year-old.

However, with Brendan Rodgers now in the dugout, there can be a new dawn for the club.

Back into the continent’s elite competition already, the champions can bring the good times back in a much wider sense for the Parkhead faithful.

Though, clearly, it’s early days for Rodgers, his appointment over the course of the summer looks like being one of their best decisions in recent years.

Clearly, this is a result everybody turns to and citing it as a big one is not exactly profound footballing insight.

Signing Leigh Griffiths

From one illustrious extreme to another, Scotland international Leigh Griffiths doesn’t exactly jump out as an important name.

Still, his arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers back in 2014 has provided the club with a truly lethal striker.

The 26-year-old has scored 54 goals in 74 league games for the Bhoys, establishing himself as the Bhoys’ best player.

Will be crucial in Europe and against Rangers.

Appointing Rodgers

There were a number of options available at the time following Ronny Deila’s departure earlier this year.

The likes of David Moyes, Paul Lambert and Malky Mackay were reportedly interviewed, though Rodgers’ arrival is truly the best option the club could have taken.

While he was cast in a bad light during the latter part of his reign at Liverpool, the Northern Irishman is exactly the sort of forward thinking, progressive coach to take the club into the future.
