Liverpool’s opening day fixture against Arsenal was always going to be the busiest fixture of the weekend here in the Football Transfer Tavern, but nobody in the Tavern was prepared for what they were about to see.
We were treated to a certified classic at The Emirates on Sunday, with a couple of stunning goals from some of Liverpool’s most talented stars sealing a 4-3 win for the away side.
A couple of top performance’s from Liverpool’s core players really were the difference in the game, not least with their goals, but also in the way that they played throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Whilst Liverpool’s squad looks, in part, weak – their core players are amongst some of the best in the Premier League, and our Landlord reckon’s that they could challenge any of their rivals in a five-a side fixture; particularly if they can get hold of their biggest transfer target…
With that, lets take a look at Liverpool’s dream 5-a side team including prime target Fabio Corentrao…
GK – Loris Karius
Despite suffering an injury that has ruled him out of the start of the Premier League season, Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern haven’t stopped going on about how good this boy is.
At just 23 years old, Karius has his best years ahead of him; but he is already quite the keeper.
The towering near 6ft3 keeper is an excellent shot stopper, and is particularly good in the air. Importantly, he is also good with the ball at his feet; a particularly important trait for a 5-a side goalkeeper to have.
DEF – Fabio Coentrao
Fabio Coentrao has been linked with Liverpool for the last few weeks as Jurgen Klopp seeks to replace the disappointing Alberto Moreno – and what a signing he would be.
The Champion’s League winner has had a stellar career so far, and would add some much needed experience at the back for Liverpool.
His electric pace would allow him to cover the back line on his own, and his driving runs would prove devastating for opposition defences.
MID – Emre Can
Ere Can is a Jurgen Klopp favourite – and it is easy to see why.
Can is really is the complete midfielder; he can tackle, he can dribble, he can pass – he can do it all. His versality is also highly valued, able to play anywhere across both the defence and midfield – making him a perfect asset in a 5-a side team.
The coming season will be a big one for Can, but expect him to kick on and make his spot in the Liverpool midfield his own.
MID – Philipe Coutinho
Philipe Coutinho has been Liverpool’s stand out star in recent years, and was recently voted Player of the Year at Liverpool’s in-house POTY awards ceremony.
He scored a stunning free kick on the opening day in a performance that will likely be the beginning of another excellent season for the young Brazilian.
Offering unstoppable set pieces, dribbling prowess and a magnificent eye for a pass; he is the first name on any Liverpool team sheet, including this 5-a side line-up.
FWD – Daniel Sturridge
When Daniel Sturridge plays; he usually scores. The trouble is – he very rarely plays.
Injuries have really hurt Daniel Sturridge’s star power, with the striker failing to play regularly in the last few seasons due to frequent, reoccurring injuries.
He now appears on the mend however, with Jurgen Klopp keen to ensure that the English forward stays fit going forward.
If he can achieve that, Sturridge could be the difference between a title challenge and a european challenge for Liverpool this season; and he would be absolutely prolific in this 5-a side team.
