Chelsea fans were full of praise for Mason Mount after he joined Derby on loan

Chelsea’s academy always gets a lot of eyes directed towards it during the summer months. It’s around this time that the Blues’ ever-growing loan army returns to their Cobham training base and a decision is made on their respective futures. This is typically followed by another loan in the case of most, though some first-team promotions and some sales are also regularly granted.

In the case of young Mason Mount, though, it’s the former option that has been taken – with the Englishman moving to Derby County on loan. This was recently confirmed over on the official Chelsea website.

Significantly, Derby County’s new manager is none other than Frank Lampard, who has gone down in the history books at Stamford Bridge as one of Chelsea’s best ever players. He’s their record goalscorer, and he knows a thing or two about playing as a midfielder.

Mount won’t have an easy time at Derby County, given the quality that they have, but Lampard has a vested interest in improving the Englishman – and so he’s in good hands.

Lots of Chelsea fans have been quick to react to their side’s announcement on Mount, and it’s fair to say that they are very excited. Mount is hugely popular, with fans touting him as everything from the next Lampard to an improvement on Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater.
