‘The stage is all yours’ - Arsenal fans flock online again to send new face important message

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted today as Stephan Lichtsteiner has given his first interview since becoming an Arsenal player. The experienced Swiss right-back has claimed that his mentality and experience can help Arsenal make their way back to playing Champions League football again, something the fans have loved hearing.

At the age of 34, it’s fair to say that Lichtsteiner’s best days are behind him, however, with Mathieu Debuchy’s departure from The Emirates the club need a right-back to share the burden with Hector Bellerin in the first team. Lichtsteiner fills that role perfectly and he’ll be joining up with Switzerland international teammate, Granit Xhaka as he looks to settle in to life in North London and Premier League football.

The job in front of Unai Emery at the moment is a giant one. The Spanish manager will be trying to undo some of the damage that Arsene Wenger caused in his final few years as Arsenal boss whilst looking to continue the legacy that Wenger started of playing attractive attacking football. Lichtsteiner will struggle to offer that as with age he’s lost his yard of pace, however, he will offer defensive solidity to a back-four that has struggled on more than one occasion.
