Everton fans here in the Tavern are hoping for an early Christmas present in the form of a new manager.
The Toffees are in desperate need of a makeover after their abysmal start to the season. The Championship is arguably one of the hardest league’s to get out of, but that’s where they’re heading at the moment, as they sit in the bottom three. Having recently sacked Ronald Koeman, they’re in desperate need of a new man having seen caretaker manager David Unsworth lose his first two games in temporary charge.
As the search for a new manager hots up, many masterminds are being linked with the possible move. One man in particular who’s been linked in recent days is Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo, who has worked absolute wonders for the Championship clubs so far this season. Formerly manager of Porto, the Portuguese mastermind is a tactical genius who has experience in both Europe and domestic leagues.
Since taking over in the Black Country, the managerial brilliance of Nuno Santo has seen them rocket to first place in the Championship. Having utilized the transfer window to its maximum potential, all signings made have been firing as foreign brilliance reigns supreme. Setting the tone for a very positive and attacking formation, which is something that Everton could take a leaf out of with their lack of goals, he seems like a good fit on paper.

Solid set up
The Portuguese manager has always known exactly how he wants to set up his sides. Since joining Wolves in the summer, he’s drilled in a gaming plan that hasn’t changed. Operating with a 3-4-3 formation, he likes to utilize the wing backs in play as they offer great attacking outlets, while using a high press system to pressurize the opposition into making mistakes.
No matter the opposition his formation and set up will always stay the same. For example, they held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw which no side in the Premier League has managed to do, setting them up with the same formation but using it in a more defensive way which provided chances for them to even win the game.
His knowledge of how to get results out of games is second to none and something every manager can aspire to be like.
Tactical Brilliance
Tactics are arguably the most important thing in the game of football, to succeed whether you have a quality squad or not, you’re going to need to be tactically astute. The opposition that this man goes up against dictates the way he tactically sets them up.
Approaching any Championship game, he offers an attacking style without any doubts, but against a Premier League side in the cup, he operates a counter-attack which balances incredibly with a fast-paced attack.
Tactics have been astray for Everton so far this season, with the players struggling to utilize the way their manager wants him to play. At times being set up in the wrong way, causes problems against the bigger sides, as for a team struggling it’s important to go out there freely and play to the situation.
Perfectionist, winning is the only choice
Nuno Santo is arguably one of the most driven managers in the most positive of situations. Win a game 1-0 but could have scored 2 or 3, that’s not good enough in his eyes. Everything has to be done perfectly, he lives of winning and wants his team to be perfect. Obviously, he’s not going to win every game, but he drives any team he manages to succeed.
During his time in Porto, he managed a 64% win percentage, which has been even better at current club Wolves. So for a man that at every job has achieved an incredible win percentage, it is inevitable that this man would be able to work some magic at Goodison Park.
