Stamford Bridge has proven to be an impressive conveyor belt of quality young talent in recent years – but the system does have several flaws.

Despite the criticism of the loan system, Chelsea have proven that it works – though most players that come through it continue their careers away from Stamford Bridge. Thibaut Courtois is the only notable player that has come through to play at Chelsea – though more are expected over the next few years.

In truth, very few clubs can say that they’ve produced as many players as Chelsea have in recent years – but for every success, there are more than a few failures.

Even now, there are several players at Chelsea that, in truth, don’t look destined for success. In fact – quite the opposite.

With that said, these 2 Chelsea wonderkids are surely destined to flop

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been hyped up as the jewel in Chelsea’s crown, and to be honest – he has done very little to warrant that hype.

His exposure in the first team has been limited at best, but when he has been given a chance he has hardly set the world alight.

Players like Marcus Rashford, who have made their Premier League debuts with similar levels of hype, have come in and made an immediate impact – but Loftus-Cheek hasn’t.

Under Conte, he has largely disappeared from the first team fold entirely – and that is a testament to how little the Italian trusts him.

Hopefully this suggestion is wrong – but thus far, Loftus-Cheek has done very little to suggest that it is.

Todd Kane

Todd Kane had the world at his feet a few years ago, but over the past few seasons he has faded into obscurity.

He has had a few good loans, and a few not so good loans – but like Loftus-Cheek, he hasn’t really set the world alight beyond youth level.

His failure to progress in recent years has a lot to do with circumstance too, given that he has frequently suffered with injuries over the last few years – whilst Chelsea have had a solid string of right-backs available ahead of him.

The emergence of Ola Aina in the Chelsea first team has made it seem as though Kane’s first team career at Chelsea is over – and that is very disappointing.
