Everton improved their squad this summer signing experienced Premier League players like Yannick Bolasie and Ashley Williams – and that delighted the Toffees in the Tavern…
Each of their main summer signings have played in the top tier of English football meaning that new manager Ronald Koeman really focused on strength in depth in an attempt to revive the Toffees fortunes.
Under Roberto Martinez, Everton really disappointed last season, especially when playing at Goodison Park. They were defensively shaky and the attacking prowess of Martinez’ normal sides had been lost.
Despite the signings this summer, Everton are still left with a number of players who can only be considered as on the fringes of the first team.
In fact, our landlord thinks that there is a lot of players that Koeman should consider offloading soon in order to have a perfectly complete squad.
With that said, these 2 Everton fringe players need to be offloaded very soon…
Darron Gibson
Despite the fact that Gibson was signed by the Toffees in 2012, he has still only made 51 league appearances for Everton which is an average of just under 13 games a season.
That’s not good enough for a player who was signed from Manchester United with big hopes of flourishing in Merseyside.
He just hasn’t been fit enough to get in the side this year and the 29-year-old might find more opportunities elsewhere.
Arouna Kone
The Ivorian netted eleven league goals for Wigan Athletic in 34 appearances and featured in the Latics side that won the FA Cup.
He then followed departing manager Roberto Martinez to Goodison Park but has failed to establish himself at Everton.
To be fair to Kone, he suffered a knee injury in the October after signing for Everton and was out for the rest of the season.
However, even since returning, he has really been unable to impress consistently and is not good enough to challenge Romelu Lukaku for a starting berth.
The punters at the Tavern do believe he has enough to offer another Premier League team though and Koeman should consider offloading him.
