It’s been a good start to the season for Everton under their new boss Ronald Koeman, and our local Toffees punters here in the Transfer Tavern have been allowed to dream of what could be this year.
Indeed, they are looking like they’ll challenge for the top four at least this season whilst, as it stands, they have to be in the title race discussion as they are above Manchester United in the table.
Whether or not they can sustain such Premier League winning form is a big question for a side that was poor last year, and has results like losing to Bournemouth and Burnley in them.
Nevertheless, they do look like a real threat once more and Goodison Park doesn’t need any extra invite to get behind their side and intimidate the opposition.
The Toffees have usually been one of those teams you know you’ll have to fight to get three points off of and this season looks as though that factor is truly back.
But, the club have desires of their own instead of just making things hard for everyone else, and our landlord reckons if they are to reach the top four these TWO players will be absolutely key…
Romelu Lukaku
The Belgian striker can be world class when he wants to be and therein lies the problem.
The one question mark that hangs over Lukaku is whether he can be consistent enough over a season and that’s what he needs to show this year.
He started slowly before cracking a hat-trick against Sunderland and has scored goals since but needs to avoid going quiet if Everton want to do well this year.
Idrissa Gueye
It may be early days in his Everton career but Gueye looks like a classy midfielder and is a big part of the reason of why the Toffees have started so well this season.
He breaks up play and intercepts like very few others can but he can get forward and create and that’s what makes him a very decent looking prospect.
The only issue is if he can keep it up once people know to try and stop him. Overcome that hurdle and Everton will be sitting pretty.
