Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a long and successful era under current boss Jurgen Klopp. Indeed, this season the German has brought an exciting brand of football to Anfield and, it’s no surprise he’s a hugely popular figure on Merseyside.

Along the way, the former Dortmund boss has blooded some youngsters into the side over his time at the club and our local Liverpool fans in the bar love seeing the youth academy players coming through. Many of the talents have been a major success in recent years and most of them will be hoping to emulate the likes of Steven Gerrard, Micheal Owen and Jamie Carragher in their careers for the Reds.

Indeed, it’s rare to see now a player come through the ranks and stay as a one-club man nowadays, but our barman still dreams of it happening in the future, despite the ludicrous amount of money around in football.

Nevertheless, with the promotion of youth, there is always the flip side, with many of the players getting lost along the way in the sometimes career dwindling loan system and eventually finding clubs lower down the league triangle.

With that in mind, our landlord has taken a look at TWO young players who should bow out now before it’s too late for their own careers…

Sheyo Ojo

The winger has found himself at Fulham in the Championship for a third loan spell away from the club. At 20, Sheyi Ojo has spent his entire Liverpool career on loan so far, which doesn’t bode well at all for his future at the club.

Ojo has scored four goals in 21 games so far this season, and he can play on either flank. A move away for the England man could take his career on to the next level that he needs to develop. A regular at international youth level, he’s certainly got the talent to make it elsewhere.

Ben Woodburn

Many expect Ben Woodburn to have a strong future in the game after breaking the club’s record in terms of youngest ever goalscorers, though it’s hard to see him getting a run of games right now. With the likes of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane currently occupying the front three attacking berths, the young Welshman may struggle for game time.

Clearly a huge talent, perhaps Woodburn should consider a step down to prove his worth and try to force Ryan Giggs’ hand on the international stage.
