Manchester City have one of the best squads in the Premier League – and the City fans in the Tavern are loving life under Guardiola…
Their team is full of talent and depth from the goalkeeper to the strikers. In fact, the Blues could put out two squads capable of challenging for the top four.
However, such depth also means there are fringe players who aren’t getting much game time and are basically stealing a wage.
It may sound harsh but that’s the reality for a fringe player who isn’t actually contributing very much to the team cause.
There may be times when said player is called upon to replace an injured or suspended star, but even in a team like City – there can sometimes be too many fringe players.
As a result, the lads here at the Transfer Tavern have decided that these TWO players should be offloaded by Guardiola at the Etihad because they aren’t doing very much for the team…
Yaya Toure
The powerful Ivorian has been at City since 2010, featuring over 250 times for the Blues.
Impressively, the 33-year-old has also scored 75 goals for City in a career that has had its ups and downs.
Unfortunately, Toure is currently in the middle of one of those ‘downs’ right now as he is unable to get into the squad, with no help from his agent Dimitri Seluk who is continually picking fights with new manager Pep Guardiola.
Whilst there was a recent apology of sorts from the Toure camp, his game time is still limited to basically nothing, and he will have to do a lot of work to force his way into the current City squad.
Hopefully, he will be allowed to leave on a high otherwise Blues fans will have to think back to his miraculous goals of yesteryear as their fondest memories.
Fabian Delph
Playing in a similar position to Toure is another fringe player who has been on the periphery of the Manchester City squad ever since signing in 2015.
Fabian Delph was in the form of his life whilst at Aston Villa and helped keep the club in the Premier League for a number of seasons.
However, his departure along with the departure of star striker Christian Benteke saw Villa embarrassingly relegated from the Premier League.
Delph has not had the best time of it at Manchester City.
He has only made 19 league appearances in a year and a half at the Etihad and is struggling to break into the team ahead of Fernandinho, Gundogan and the other City midfield stars.
Whilst he may believe he can fight for his place, it seems as if he wasn’t popular under Pellegrini and that hasn’t changed under Guardiola.
We think there are better avenues out there for Delph to go on and be successful in a first team elsewhere.
