With the team flying high and unbeaten, all of a sudden it came crashing down for our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern.

Up until the Liverpool match, United looked like a force to be reckoned with in the league and Champions league. A couple of tough watches for our punters and a loss to Chelsea and Man City among others have 360’d United’s season, much to their annoyance. Hit with several injuries and with only two midfielders to choose from at times, Mourinho has had to keep the squad ticking over as much as he can.

The defeat to newly promoted Huddersfield Town left manager Jose Mourinho furious and was to have told his players to explain to the United faithful why they lacked any type of passion and energy for the match. That has kind of summed up United stuttering few months, alongside being knocked out of the Carabao Cup to Championship side Bristol City.

Mourinho desperately needs to strengthen in the winter and the two players or landlord has been taking a look at maybe first out of the door…

Luke Shaw

The United left-back has been given numerous chances over the previous two managers to show what he can be capable of, yet he always fails to live up to expectations despite somewhat of a resurgence in recent weeks.

Again this season with United looking short on the left back position and having a make-do attitude with a rotation of players and the form of Ashley Young, Shaw once again has largely failed to show up and with his contract coming to an end you’d think the former Southampton man would be putting in the work at this crucial time.

Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku has a very big burden on his shoulders to carry at the moment being United’s only main striker while the returning Zlatan Ibrahimovic re-finds his goalscoring boots. Indeed, after his explosive start, the goals have all but dried up in recent months for the Belgian marksman, leaving Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard to carry the can.

With that price tag and responsibility Lukaku must take the ownership of goals, yes, he’s not going to score every match but he also needs to step up in the big matches when United and Mourinho needs him most.
