The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are feeling a little sorry for Luke Shaw, after receiving yet more criticism of his manager Jose Mourinho.

The former Southampton full-back’s time at United hasn’t gone as everyone might have thought it would have when he first signed. Shaw has all the attributes needed to be a top quality left-back and one that fits the mould of previous players in the position down the years but something just doesn’t seem right.

Indeed, there seems something missing from his arsenal – either his mentality or the fear of picking up another injury to further setback his career. Mourinho has been scalding of his review of Shaw’s time at United and, more so after he was hauled off after 45 minutes in the FA Cup tie against Brighton.

Indeed, Shaw isn’t the only one in the brief history of Mourinho’s time at Old Trafford to feel the cold shoulder of the Portuguese, and these two other players could follow suit, as our barman expects big changes in the summer months…

Matteo Darmian

The Italian full-back was brought into the club to replace Antonio Valencia on the right-hand side of the defence. However, to the amazement of all of us here in the Tavern, the Ecuadorian has gone on to be one of the best right-backs in the game in recent seasons.

Moreover, Darmian’s game time had reduced dramatically over the years to not even a bit-part player. So, it seems inevitable he should leave in the summer to gain regular first-team minutes and get his career back on track.

Sergio Romero

The backup ‘keeper to David De Gea is possibly one of the strongest number two’s in the game. However, being behind undoubtedly the world’s best keeper has reduced Romero’s role to cup matches only, something an international keeper should be getting more game time, but unable to for obvious reasons.

After the shopping window of the World Cup, Romero will, without doubt, attract some big names for his signature and many in the bar would not be surprised to see him leave Old Trafford, which he can do with his head held high.
