Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side are by no means as prolific as they were during their record-breaking campaign having already dropped as many points as they did for the whole of 17/18 at this stage in the season.
Despite this, however, they still pose the most legitimate threat to league leaders Liverpool, and their trademark dismantling of Arsenal at the weekend shows they mean business.
Things are looking tough for the Manchester side, though, with a mountain of fixtures piling up – including games in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League – fatigue, injury problems and shock results are very real problems they must face if they wish to successfully their title.
With that said, here are two remaining games that could be the make or break of City’s season.
Manchester United 16/03/2019
For obvious reasons, the Manchester derby is one of the biggest games of the season.
Although United aren’t currently pushing for the top spot they still possess the power to dismantle City’s push and all but secure Liverpool’s first title in 29 years. Catch-22 if ever there was one.
There’s no doubt that Ole Gunnar Solskjær has managed to unlock the United of old, after what could be described as a rather dark and uncharacteristic period post-Ferguson. He’s seen his side through a ten game unbeaten run, turning distant dreams of a top four spot into reality, and waking fans from what became a nightmare under Jose Mourinho.
Of course, there’s no doubt that City will come into this match fancying themselves for the victory and they’ve certainly got the means to pull it off. However, they find themselves arriving at Old Trafford off the back of quick successive games against Bournemouth, Watford, and Schalke.
This will be a major test for the side.
Tottenham Hotspur 20/04/2019
Despite only having half their starting side available at any given point, Spurs have deservedly found their way in the top three after another vintage display of consistently dominant football.
Yes, their efforts rarely come to fruition, with any form of silverware being a distant memory, or pipe dream, but they’ve shown time and time again that they are big players in the league, and no easy fixture.
It should also be noted that their big names in Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min will have made their full return by this point as well.
