The Man City fans at the Transfer Tavern have pinpointed 2 players they hope to sign this summer in order to bolster them defensively.

Whilst they have already exceeded their points total from last year, with 2 games remaining, it has been clear this year that their defence has left a lot to be desired. With just 11 clean sheets, this is the least they’ve had over the past 7 seasons.

It is no secret that City have suffered greatly when being faced with counter attacks but also the fact that they have struggled to deal with the aerial threats that have come their way.

That being said, with these signings, City are certain to improve defensively and increase their chances in contending for the title next year!

GK: Victor Valdes

With Middlesborough now guaranteed relegation, it is feasible that Victor Valdes will be seeking a transfer, carving the perfect path for him to join City.

Pep Guardiola must be unimpressed with both Claudio Brava as well as Willy Caballer0, makes this signing that much more appealing and he will without a doubt give City some much-needed stability, confidence and presence in goal.

Whilst he is no spring chicken, Valdes clearly has a lot more to give and City may well benefit from his extensive experience, albeit for a season or two.

CB: Dejan Lovren

Despite some fans calling Vincent Kompany a “legend”, it is clear he is part of an ageing defence at City, with Sagna; Zabaleta, Kolarov and Clichy all being at least 31 years of age.

This in mind, John Stones is clearly a player in waiting but with him still not featuring regularly, a more experienced defender is needed to lead the line.

Dejan Lovren is arguably in the best form of his career and the 27-year-old Croatian’s presence will be just what City need in order to shore up their aerial threat.

With four years experience in the Premier League, he is a safe bet in terms of adapting quickly though City would need to come up with something special considering the fact that he has just signed a new contract with Liverpool which will see him there until 2021.
