The Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern have had to deal with a mixed bag when it comes to transfer dealings over the last few years.

Like his predecessors, Brendan Rodgers was not afraid to splash the cash during his reign in charge of the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp has followed suit in his near year long time in charge thus far.

This has resulted in a number of fantastic signings in recent years, but for every transfer success – there have been more than a few duds.

Much more focus is often placed on the failed transfers in the Premier League, and our landlord wants to change that.

He feels that Liverpool deserve FAR more credit for some of their business transactions – because they have made so many great deals over the past few years.

Luis Suarez

An easy one to start off with.

Luis Suarez signed for Liverpool in January 2011, and from the moment joined the club he looked like a star.

Scoring goals for fun throughout his tenure, in the final two years of his time with the club he quickly emerged as one of the best front men in world football.

Forming a stunning partnership with Daniel Sturridge, Suarez nearly led the Reds to the Premier League title on his own.

Whilst he has since been sold by the club, the huge transfer fee that accompanied his sale made his Liverpool tenure even sweeter.

Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho has proven himself in recent years to be one of the best attacking midfielders in the world – and he gets better every time he plays for the club.

His devastating set-pieces are just one aspect of his game – he has truly become the complete midfielder.

At just 24, his best years are still ahead of him – and Liverpool have done a stellar job holding on to him thus far.

Nathaniel Clyne

Though some in the Football Transfer Tavern have suggested that naming Clyne as one of Liverpool’s best signings in the last 5 years is premature; we think he has proven himself one of the best to wear the shirt – despite his tender years.

He has a perfect balance of attacking prowess and defensive stability, and has proven himself to be reliable hand in the heart of the Liverpool defence.

In Nathaniel Clyne, our landlord thinks that Liverpool have found a defender that can hold down the right hand side of their defence for years to come.
