These 3 Chelsea players are massively under-appreciated – agreed?

The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern definitely have their favourites in the Blues squad – but there are some players that just don’t get the credit that they deserve…

For the most part, whilst they are not the most vocal fan base here in the Tavern, Chelsea fans will back most of the players in the squad to the hilt – but there definitely are a few exceptions.

And it isn’t just the Stamford Bridge faithful – fans of other clubs here in the Tavern will often get involved in club-based chatter, and the same names always pop up as the most important stars.

Regular names like Eden Hazard and Diego Costa are a given, but what of the other Chelsea stars that don’t get a mention?

Our landlord thinks there are a number of boys in blue that are absolutely crucial cogs to the Chelsea machine – and he thinks that they deserve recognition.

With that, here are THREE Chelsea players that are massively under-appreciated – agreed?

 John Obi Mikel

John Obi Mikel is under-rated by everyone here in the Football Transfer Tavern – Chelsea fans included.

Whilst he may not be a starter every single week, Mikel always puts in a top performance when called upon. He is a reliable hand that Chelsea managers have turned to for over a decade.

Whenever the club go through a struggle in midfield it is Mikel that they turn to.

Whether you look at last season – with the Nigerian replacing an out-of-form Nemanja Matic, or you cast your mind back to 2012 and look at the role that Mikel had en-route to Chelsea’s Champion’s League victory.

He is always ready to play and will always play well.

You don’t stay at a top club for that long if you aren’t good enough.

He might not be the most flashy of midfielders, but our landlord thinks he might just be the most under-rated player at Chelsea right now.

 Gary Cahill

Another player that is often overlooked in defence, Gary Cahill has been a key part of the Chelsea first team since his arrival in 2012.

It might have something to do with the fact that he only cost £7 million, or the fact that he isn’t a well-traveled European star – but there are very few fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern that are pleased when they see Cahill’s name in the first team.

Like Mikel, he played a key part en-route to Chelsea’s Champion’s League victory in 2012, and since then he has cemented his place in the Chelsea first team.

David Luiz could rarely get a game ahead of Cahill, and he was sold by the club for a whopping £50 million – based on performances alone the English defender should be worth double that!

He definitely isn’t the flashiest or the most technically gifted of defenders – but he is the real deal.

 John  Terry

Terry

Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern typically treat John Terry like a hero, as they should – but very few fans of other clubs give JT the credit that he deserves.

He is the only current Chelsea player to come through the club’s youth system in nearly 20 years – that in of itself is a huge achievement!

But more than that – Terry has been at the heart of everything that Chelsea have done for over a decade.

Every single huge title or trophy win – Terry has been there. Even the Champions League…

No defender in recent memory has come close to being as good as John Terry, for as long as John Terry has been. He is unrivalled.

The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern call him ‘Captain, Leader, Legend ‘ – and by all accounts they are absolutely right.
