This is a controversial one amongst the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…
Chelsea have, without doubt, got one of the best squads in the Premier League.
From front to back, the Blues are blessed with some of the best players in Europe, and that has led to some great success over the last few years.
However, the Blues are not an anomaly in the Premier League – some of their players are simply not ready for Premier League football.
Either on a temporary, or permament deal – there are a number of Chelsea players that simply MUST play in the Championship this year.
With that said, these THREE Chelsea players should really be playing in the Championship…
Patrick Bamford
This one will no doubt anger some of the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern – but Patrick Bamford is a Championship level player.
During his numerous spells in the league he proved that he was good enough, that is undoubtable – but his issues arose when he tried to make the step up.
The 2015/16 season was a write-off for the young Englishman, as he struggled to get first team football at the lower-level Premier League clubs – and that is continuing this year.
For all his goals and assists in the Championship, something hasn’t struck a cord with Bamford and the Premier League – and that definitely says a lot.
If he isn’t getting a game in the top flight, the natural transition is to move down a league.
Dominic Solanke
This might seem harsh, given that Solanke is yet to really be given a chance in the Premier League – but that is exactly the point.
Solanke is currently, technically, Chelsea’s third choice striker this season – yet we have heard no mention of him since the start of the season.
Solanke was absolutely prolific during his time in the development squads – and the natural transition from that would be to the Football League.
He is clearly not experienced enough to battle it out for a spot in the Chelsea first team, and he must go down a league in order to gain the first team football that he needs.
We’ve seen what his former strike partner Tammy Abraham has been doing in the league – Dominic Solanke is more than capable of doing same
This should be a short term deal, of course – but it needs to happen.
Lewis Baker
Lewis Baker proved last year that he was too good for Vitesse – yet another loan to the Dutch club followed this year!
The deal made absolutely no sense.
Baker is now 21, and is getting towards the period in his development where it becomes make or break – yet he is floundering in a second rate league.
A short-term loan to a Championship side would allow Baker an opportunity to get used to first team football in England ahead of a potential Chelsea return – but instead that process has been put back a year; potentially making it too late for him.
If Baker is going to succeed at Chelsea – he needs an English loan.
The Championship would be a perfect place for that to happen.
