Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern are slowly losing their preseason buzz in the wake of their unsteady start to the new Premier League campaign.

Despite their statement of around £150m during the transfer window, the Toffees are currently lying in the relegation places and struggling for goals; scoring four in total in the league.

Two wins, one draw and three defeats is probably not the start Koeman had hoped for. With European football also on the calendar this season, they’ll be plenty of opportunity for squad rotation.

Seemingly missing the goals of the departed Romelu Lukaku and leaking in ten goals in five games, Everton’s early season problems are mounting. Toffees boss Ronald Koeman may be looking at fringe players to revitalise and shock the squad into life.

Some of our punters here believe these three players Koeman hasn’t given a proper chance to this season, could come back into the fold to make a stake for first-team minutes before the winter window in January.

Joel Robles

The arrival of Jordan Pickford this season has dropped the former Athletico Madrid and Wigan goalkeeper down the pecking order, to third choice. Despite sharing No.1 responsibilities last season with Maarten Stekelenburg, Robles has been left out in the cold.

Conceding an average of two goals a game it may be time to give Robles a run in the team while Pickford finds his feet.

Kevin Mirallas

Ronald Koeman seemed to have blocked Mirallas a move in the summer transfer window. After being dropped for the two-nil defeat to Chelsea for having attitude problems, Mirallas couldn’t make a switch away from Goodison Park, much to the frustration of the Toffees in our Tavern.

With that in mind, he’ll not want to be wasting away on the bench for the rest of the year and a change in attitude coud see him back in to Koeman’s plans.

Ross Barkley

After his bizarre deadline day move to Chelsea fell through, supposedly mid-medical, Barkley remains an Everton player. Koeman has never truly shut the door on Barkley staying at Goodison Park and with not much interest he may have no other option.

Barkley’s contract runs out at the end of the season and while he’s on is own injury comeback trial, Everton for the time being remains the place he’ll play his football. With Everton’s current run, Barkley could really make a difference if he can get himself fit enough to play.
