If the Guardian is to be believed, the Liverpool midfielder could be set for a Premier League switch to Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
The deal is a strange one, but our Landlord reckons you cant put anything past Mourinho this summer; he seems destined to sign just about any player that he can get his hands on.
As well as Joe Allen, a host of other names are linked with United; some of which could make the switch over the coming days.

Paul Pogba
Rumours have been rampant in the Football Transfer Tavern over this deal for months, and it seems like Manchester United have beaten out a host of top European sides the French superstars signature.
The European superstar would be a great signing for any side, offering dominating midfield play and offering a serious attacking threat.
The Daily Star is reporting that the new is very close, with United set to complete at any point in the coming days, though they do add that Real Madrid may come back in for the in-demand midfielder.
Mourinho seems desperate to capture Pogba; and he might just get his wish over the next week or so.
Andre Gomes
Another player that has been frequently linked over the last few weeks is Andre Gomes.
Gomes burst onto the radar of a number of top clubs, following his exploits with Portugal during this summer’s European Championship, and has attracted the attention of a number of teams.
Man Utd seem to be the front runners, with Mourinho seemingly keen to bolster out his midfield; and he reportedly sees Gomes as the perfect solution.
Sky Sports rank the deal as the second most likely transfer for United this summer, so the chances of this one happening seem pretty high.
A midfield duo of Pogba and Gomes would be unstoppable.
Fabinho
More of a recent rumour emerging around the Tavern in recent days, there have been reports of a United move for Monaco defender Fabinho.
The Brazilian right back is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League, and outlets are reporting that Jose Mourinho is very keen on adding quality to the righ hand side of his defensive line.
Crucially, they add that Mourinho shares an agent with the defender; which could prove crucial when it comes to negotiating a fee for the in demand full back.
Mourinho always backs defensive stability over defensive flair, so there is no surprise that this deal is on the cards.
