Historically, Manchester City are a club renowned for bringing through young players and developing them into international footballers.
Since the Abu-Dhabi take over in 2008 however, City have not had the opportunity to bring youth players into the first-team – as their owners often demanded instant success.
Now, City have the biggest and arguably the best facilities in Europe for youth development – and the owners are now keen to implement a core of youth players into the first-team squad.
Jason Denayer, Kelechi Iheanacho and Jose Pozo are some of the players recently been given their debuts by the club.
At the Tavern, we believe many young players at City are on the cusp of first-team football.

Brahim
Manchester City fans in the Tavern famously remember the ‘Isco-saga’ that surrounded the 2013/2014 summer transfer window – but now City have a player that looks even better than the Real Madrid superstar.
Amazing technical ability, insane skill, and the ability to dribble past players in impossible situations make the Spaniard a real talent.
It’s definitely fair to say the 16-year old is on the verge of achieving great things.

Benjamin Garré
The second name on the ever impressive list is Benjamie Garré – the son of 1986 World-Cup winner Oscar Garré. The central-midfielder is on the verge of following in his father’s footsteps and becoming a truly exceptional player.
Only signed this summer from Valez Sarsfield, Garré has needed no time to settle into life in Manchester. He has flourished in the under-16 side.
His composure on the ball is likened to that of Paul Scholes – which won’t sit well with many Blues.
Cameron Humphreys
Local lad Cameron Humphreys has many of our regulars here at the Tavern talking.
The 18-year-old central defender has been at Manchester City since 2008.
Former manager Manuel Pellegrini was the first to spot the talent of Humphreys and took the then 16 year-old on City’s preseason tour of 2015. Now the heartbeat of the under-18 defence, it won’t be long before we see the Manchester lad in the first-team.
Now under the tutelage of Lee Carsley, we may see this star go all the way and become a regular feature for the England national team in years to come.
Lorenzo Gonzalez
The Switzerland striker scored 23 goals and registered 18 assists in just 14 appearances in the under-15 league last season for FC Servette.
Gonzalez has joined up with the u-18 squad since his arrival at City after been deemed too good for the younger squads.
Gonzalez’ style has been likened in the Tavern to that of Luis Suarez and speculation in the Tavern suggests that he was personally requested by Pep Guardiola prior to his move in July.
If he turns out to be half the player Suarez is, who knows what City would achieve in the future.
