The 29-year-old only made five starts in the Premier League last season; seemingly he is no longer required as an option for Guardiola.

Summer speculation has been linking the former Porto player with a move away from North England, and similarly to Delph, he must ensure that the US tour is his saving grace.

It is arguably the last opportunity that he’ll be rewarded – if selected – to alter his squad status and display his significance to the cause.
